Things to know about snowmobiling in our area:
1) It is the only winter recreation in our area producing revenue in an otherwise dismal economy. When asked, snowmobilers that entered  local establishments last weekend, they traveled from as far out as Amsterdam and Kingston.
2) Has absolutely no effect on property values.
3) Snowmobile emissions have dropped 70% and will continue to decline; bringing the total down to 30% of previous [2002] levels (per EPA).
4) Emissions from wood-fired furnaces /stoves are one of the major contributors to green house gases. Grossly exceeding snowmobile emissions.
5) Snowmobiling in Sharon Springs is a family recreation going back to the 60's and is considered by many to have excellent trails for safe riding.
6) A LARGE number of snowmobilers in the Town of Sharon are taxpayers in the Town of Sharon.

These are the facts. Not a conjured notion from one's imagination.

Our History

The snowmobile club, SHARON PATHFINDERS, INC., was formed in the mid 1960s to provide a means for interested families to enjoy the Family Winter Recreation of Snowmobiling. Trails in the vicinity of Sharon Springs were identified, developed and maintained. For the next several years, membership and activities kept pace with the snowmobiling popularity. New York State granted the club "NOT FOR PROFIT" cooperate status in January 1974. Interest in the club followed the snowmobile wane during the late 1970s. However, the 90s brought a rejuvenated interest in snowmobiling. SHARON PATHFINDERS was reorganized to reflect the renewed popularity. Membership grew. The club joined the New York State "Grant in Aid" assistance program in 1998. County-wide grass drag races and other fund raising activities have enabled the club to expand its trail mileage. Other successes include improved trail signage, bridges and modern grooming equipment to insure a safe and pleasant trail system in the Sharon Springs area.
